Chris was selected as one of UT’s Andrew W. Mellon Engaged Scholar Initiative Fellows in May 2017. Being an “engaged scholar” has been a core part of Chris’ professional and educational life. It means:
- transforming knowledge of the academic discipline of history into public humanities projects;
- writing for the public; and
- engaging with controversial ideas and trying to empathize with different perspectives.
